Cast Iron Grill Pan With Ridges


I am a fan of cast iron cookwares.  I guess I must have said it a dozen times already.  What can I say?  I got nothing better to write about.  This one has ridges, so you can really make nice looking grill marks on it.  It's also coated with enamel on the outside which I don't think is necessary but can add different colors to  the same pan for aesthetic and marketing reasons.  Some has the enamel on the cooking surface so that makes it non-reactive to acidic food, me think.

  2. Cast iron gives that unique BBQ taste, similar to the wok we Chinese use. I like the taste. Aluminum and steel pans usually can't give that kind of flavor. I don't know about copper. For cast iron pan, I think I like those without enamel coating on the cooking surface. (cast iron Dutch oven, with enamel coating is good or better I think)

  3. yes, we have cast iron pan at home. One of them is for frying egg. We have too many pans, pots home. I think we had a dutch oven coated with enamel.

    i have a love-hate relationship with cast iron pans - they're great replacement for non-stick pans & very durable. but at the same time, they're damn heavy!

    as for copper pans, they're generally great because they conduct heat very effectively. but they're very expensive. i think they're best for making desert type food, because they're very non-reactive & you don't have to worry about heating sugary or acidic liquid for an extended period of time. also, they don't leave a "metallic" aftertaste to the food.

    sorry for my long comments - just my 2 cents.

    hongkie: Yeah, they are heavy as hell but you somehow get used to it. Copper is expensive, I don't think I will ever make the investment. Wow, I'll take your word for it regarding the property of copper cookware. They sound right.

  6. yum!! le creuset is so heavy! i think doing BBQ suits me the best! i can't possibly toss anything in the frying pan. it's simply too heavy for me.

  7. I like heavy cookwares. It feels substantial and all business. I think you don't go to the gym so just imagine yourself doing some free weight while cooking, toning your arm you know, good for your arm and your health. All the plus without the minus.

  9. Unless you are going for the Frenchy brand, most cast iron cookwares are like dirt cheap and they aren't half as bad. Actually I prefer the enamel-less cook surface for frying pan because the patina formed over use is just unmistakably beautiful and more important makes the pan really truly non-stick.
