Mini Movie Review

Taken (2008) on DVD
One very typical movie: the slut got killed and the virgin was saved. The End. Niam Neeson plays a retired government operative/superdad who cracked a Paris-based Albanian human trafficking ring single-handedly. The hand to hand combat scenes are good. But overall actions are just agreeable. There is no joy or fair as the story unfolds. Neeson is a good actor but some how his performance seems a bit constrained. Judging from the reviews I thought it would be better.

You know I actually like "Taken" and found it quite entertaining. I suppose my feelings may have been different if it weren't filmed in Paris. I enjoy seeing some street scenes from Paris. I can also kind of relate to what it is like to travel to an exotic country as a single young woman (from past experience that is). It can be exciting, yet so dangerous. I find the story refreshing. I love movie recommendations. Thanks. More?

  3. You know I didn't know it was a Luc Besson movie until like now. Shame on me.
Yeah I think our past experience definitely makes who we are and what we like now, movies included. I had such high expectation that actually went to buy the DVD, paying 9.99 plus tax instead of just borrowing it from the library well I couldn't find it on the shelf and didn't bother to reserve ...
I have to say it wasn't a bad movie, but it fell short on a couple of counts. The supporting cast is so so. The action is so so. The overall look is so so. It doesn't have a look to it, what's the color scheme, I don't know. The girl who plays the seventeen year old isn't all that sympathetic or convincing in my mind. The girls are simply helpless just waiting to be saved so there is no drama in that department. And I want Neeson's role to be even meaner, I think shooting the wife of the Paris deputy whatever was the right approach but the rest wasn't enough to shock or surprise me ....
