  1. What shot don't just take a snap to complete? I guess the only exception is those shots in the night. So I am here. Your cosplay is just lovely. Being fastinated by the Olympic games for the pass 2 weeks and Japanese animation watch in internet ties up all the free time. Do you know there is a amazon.cn? Got some books there too. Have I told you that I am going to Xinjiang by end September?

  3. You are traveling again, that's exciting. I always meant to ask you but not. Did pica go belly up? Or just perhaps just can't access from here?

  5. Yes, if things work out as plan, i will be off from Sep 20 for a 14days trip to Xinjiang. Yes, the pica sucks with their recent changes. My readership is basically gone. :-(

I am working hard on something new for your viewing pleasure.

  6. I thought your pica account was pretty great, you had a quite a following. Oh well, now it's gone what a pity.

When I was "shooting" the US Open (practice sessions), I saw like $10,000 equipments. A guy was lugging some D3, D700 combo with big glasses. I was duly impressed. Now I was my D700 too ... But that's like very very unlikely.

  7. Well yes, D700 sure is the choice.

  8. You know I own and use Nikon all my life. But the 5D's image still tops Nikon's. I just like the D700 or D3 beats Canon in every each way, not only on say user interface, ergonomics but on image quality, straight out of camera JPEG as well. I know a good picture is not just image quality. But then again, like I always say, all things being equal, Canon does deliver a clearer sharper more nuanced detail image.

  9. You impression of Canon 5D is better is base on you own experience or from Kenrockwell's? Straight out of camera JPG is affected by the setting of camera either by the user or by the camera manufacture. dpreview have review saying that for raw convered image, canon do not have a lead, or just very slightly. And you know, Adobe if make it possible to clone the effect of nikon on canon raw file or vice versa. I don't care the straight out of camera jpg result. I will do all tweaking to make the final image to my taste. :-p

  10. Sure it's from rockwell plus others which I don't recall their names. It's the slight advantage that always bothers me. I always wonder why Nikon don't or can't make it just better. I remember reading one that shows a picture with weird pattern from a real object. Of course that's like 100% from a meaningless distant object nobody really cares. It's pixel peeping and has little to do with real photography.

The 50D just announced. Man, you really wonder what the deal with all these constant upgrade with that series of camera. It seems like yesterday they had the 40D out, or even the 30D. Man I am going back to film (just kidding, at most parallel)

  11. I cannot fully agree that the minute detail in the pixel peeping does not matter. The clarity, sharpness is the core characteristic of photography. At least from a photo technique point of view. That's why we have medium and large format camera upto this day. And I really think you fully appreciate this with your new toy. :-).

For new models comming up, i think they don't have significant advance in really picture quality point of view from model to model. I am talking about what the sensor in the camera can actually capture. Actually, most of the time, I see camera manufacturer just change the digital noise reduction method an claim that they have something better. In fact, the effect of those "new" feature is reproduciable by soft post processing. That why, the D3, D300 matters, as the sensor is total 1 generation up from previous model.

Civil War (2024)

This is basically a Dorothy yellow brick road kind of story.  Also, something to do with the new replaces the old, the circle of life thing....
