Things to Look Forward To This Summer

Other than the usual childish summer blockbuster movies that I love to loathe, this summer is shaping up to be a good season for Nikon users. Rumor is going rampant that Nikon is releasing its 24MP D3x in June together with a consumer grade D90, a successor to the D80. Rockwell, not known as a rumor monger, even has a picture of the alleged D3x on his website. It's really an exciting time for Nikon and its user base, that's myself included, though I couldn't imagine myself actually using a D3x to shoot family snapshots. But if I have the money, I don't see why not.

Another major event is going to be the Summer Olympics that is going to be held in China. I childishly believe in the Olympics ideal, that is people compete on a level playing field and let sports transcend religion, politics and race.

  1. I'm in the same league now, having acquired the beginner's level D60.

The other day I checked out some respectable Nikon lenses in Broadway HK [not Broadway of NYC].

I also wish the 2008 Beijing Olympics a huge success.

wp2007, as a 土共-turned 反转猪肚, may think otherwise 'cos he loves to see trouble, lots of troubles, for the Chinese government.

  2. I am looking forward for the D50 or D50X, a cheaper model than the D60, for 土共 like Professsor Freeman, see what happen to the HK Journalist, Ching Cheong, Professor Freeman will receive the same treatment as Ching Cheong

  3. For ordinary people "the Olympics ideal, that is people compete on a level playing field and let sports transcend religion, politics and race" is met when they are staring at their TV for the games broadcasted with the whole wide world. At least for the few moments.

Nikon FF is still too expensive la. I hope it will get a consumer version like the Canon do.

  4. I made up the Olympics ideal, but I guess it would be pretty close what it's supposed to be. I think it's about the human spirit, like to be the best that one can be, that kind of thing.

Yes, I'd like to see the Olympics a success. And at the same time, I don't want to see China locking up people without "due process."

FF is expensive if you are an amateur. I suppose if you shoot for a living, that's part of the business expense.

You heard of Really Right Stuff (RRS), they make bracket for camera, the only way to prevent camera from creeping down. I don't have one but if you can some machine shop to fabricate one for you, that's good enough.

Expect to see more boring flower pictures until early May. My Opanda exif tells me I've already shot less than 13000 frames from my D70. Is it going to die around 50,000. Man I have a long way to go. For D3 the shutter is rated at what 300,000 activations? Gosh, I just did a search and at 67,000 activations, D70 shutter is still alive....

  5. Ex-土共 wp2007, I bumped into Ching Cheong yesterday at Lippo Centre round about 6:00pm. He's a rather short man and he looked robust at his age.

  6. Professor Freeman, your future will be more or less the same as Ching Cheong, both of you are expertise in China affairs, can read good analysis in the level of Strait Times standard, finally end up in prison in China

Civil War (2024)

This is basically a Dorothy yellow brick road kind of story.  Also, something to do with the new replaces the old, the circle of life thing....
