Father's Day

Just in case you couldn't make out what the one on the right is, it's a tie-shaped card. The more traditional yellow card is from Alex.

I never thought I would have gotten an A+ for Driving around. Why driving around? I must be lost all the time when I am driving ... and yet I am always calm. I got a B in taking pictures. Oh well, that's an acquired taste. I don't think I run fast at all, not ever. Report card from Mr. Harry. The yellow card is from big brother and so is the Chinese homework.

My kids are still little so they still think I am kind of cool.

Happy face blueberry pancakes and Jimmy Dean sausage from wife.

  1. Awww your boys are so sweet. :)
In fact, Alex's card looks like an iPod.
And the Chinese handwriting is so much better than mine when I was his age. Keep up the good job!

  2. Thanks cr. I know as a Dad, I am biased. But I do think Alex has pretty good penmanship which most likely doesn't get from me as my handwriting is pretty horrendous.

  3. Awwww that's really sweet what you family did for you on Father's day. That coupon allowing you limitless opportunities to take photos of Alex "without a question" is just too funny!

And I agree with CR, the Chinese handwriting is really good, but what impressed me even more is his essay-writing skills. That's a really warm picture of ordinary family life painted by your son :)

We took my Dad out for a Chinese meal last Sunday, not the most original treat at all. But we had a great time, especially as my little sister just finished her Junior Cert exams (equivalent to the F.3 exams in HK).

Anyway, we'll all be heading to HK later this summer. I really want to get a good starter digital camera (hopefully one on which I could add a macro lens later). Would you have any recommendations on what brands/models I should look out for?

  4. Snowdrops long time. Hope all is well.

Incidentally I will be in HK doing my share of spreading the swine flu. If HK custom doesn't quarantine me then I will be staying in some hotel with my family for a week. I don't even plan to bring my DSLR. I just bought a Canon SD880 point and shoot.

Man, you asked me a very difficult question.
The short answer is pick Nikon or Canon, they both have very complete systems which allow you to grow if you so desire. Regarding particular models I am really out of the loop except for for their flagship models which I crave but can't afford. All models are good you just have to commit yourself to one or the other. The latest ones allow you take HD video which might turn out to be convenient, but at the same time you might need a good computer to handle the file especially if you plan to edit HD. As for lens, you may opt for whatever that comes with it. But I would say stick with the brand, don't bother with any 3rd party lenses offers. Zoom is the way to go if you want convenience. Remember the smaller the f number (the bigger the opening or aperture) the more expensive the lens is. Macro lenses are fun but you probably need a good tripod even if it comes with VR (vibration reduction in Nikon) or IS (Image stabilization as in Canon), but that's later right?

Check out dpreview.com where all the armchair photographers go ... just kidding. I think they have a section for DSLR recommendations and comparisons. Good luck and let me know what you got ....

Barber Shop in Chinatown

Nowadays I loathe to have my haircut, that's why I seldom have mine cut, maybe once or twice a year. I went back to Chinatown. I could ...
