iPhone Coming June 29

See the ads yourself from Apple.

It needs a 2-year contract with at&t wireless. So I am not sure if you can just buy the phone ....

  1. I think you told me that the iPhone can't be used in HK yet 'cos it doesn't support the GSM system.

HK will have digital TV broadcast by the end of this year from the four free wireless channels. It's also HDTV ready.

The Donald Tsang Administration announced yesterday it has chosen the Chinese standard for HDTV broadcast in HK. People who's got TV sets with other HDTV platforms can receive HDTV broadcast for some TV programmes via a set-top box.

Others aspiring to watch HD TV programmes beamed by TVB and ATV without a set-top box will need to buy mostly China-built HDTV sets that come with a compatible built-in decoder.

  2. Did I ever say that? It's a quad band GSM phone. See here from Apple. I think it's just not available in Hong Kong. And I don't think they offer or willing to unlock the phone for you to be used elsewhere until it's officially released in Asia.

Are you going to upgrade your TV soon? Now the top model is 1080P, I have a 720P which I am quite happy with it still. Most prime time programs here are offered in HD already.

  3. Yes, I'm eyeing up some 46" or above LG models which are surprisingly cheap even for Korean electronic stuff. As a matter of fact, a 46" TV set is way too large for my cubicle, a.k.a. dog's den in Cantonese.

Damn Apple Inc. I can undestand why, though. Or there's gonna be a massive parallel import of iPhones from the US to satisfy the lust of the newly-rich in Asia.

I wanna see those ad videos in order to stare at plums to quench my thirst but they require Quicktime and sadly my office PC is locked down.

  4. Samsung, LG, Kia are all household names here. I would say Samsung is first tier in terms of TV. SONY was playing catch up a couple of years ago. Though lately, SONY has some impressive models. I am just talking from my impression and experience.
I guess you have to watch the three commercials using your Dell notebook. If the iPhone has video call, then I will buy it, but it doesn't so I am not going to buy (<- it's bullshit, I just made up an excuse). But I do think video call would be a nice touch.

  5. Are there 3G networks in the States? I think one needs a 3G cellphone to do video calls. I might be wrong.

3G is all the rage in HK.

  6. America doesn't have "3G," that's the problem. I am not following the telco development but that's what I believe.

By entering in the cell market, Apple is really challenging the handset giants Nokia and Motorola. The next gen of iPhone should really support video calls.

  7. I think it will 'cos other markets in the world might have 3G.

But then if America doesn't have 3G [at least for the time being], it'd be no use for US consumers to have an iPhone that supports 3G, unless of course there're other viable video call technology out there other than 3G.

  8. As an old guy who doesn't social network anymore or had I ever? I don't care about texting as I really don't have any friend to hangout on a daily basis or even monthly basis. So I don't care about texting much. But I do find Web browsing very enticing, selective video call very interesting. So I don't understand why there's no video call yet in America.
If the cell phone plan (the data portion is dirt cheap) then it's worthwhile to get a smartphone to browse the internet. As of now, the dataplan is kind of expensive by my standard, so no data plan for me.

Civil War (2024)

This is basically a Dorothy yellow brick road kind of story.  Also, something to do with the new replaces the old, the circle of life thing....
