I think it was a done deal even before Clinton boarded the plane. As to what was offered in exchange for the release and safe return of the news workers (I think the Communists like to use workers, like sex workers, instead of journalists) I have no clue. But I guess just Bill Clinton showing up perhaps is good enough. Bill is a charming and fascinating character and an Ex-POTUS and to have him arrive in N. Korea and shake hand with you, that's priceless. So I guess Kim would have to agree to pardon the young ladies. It's good enough. It also helps to break the ice for some diplomatic exchange. So it's a win win, except for the journalists.
ReplyDeleteNow the impolite yet inevitable thing to ask is what exactly happened? What did the two young ladies do near the China and N. Korea border leading to their arrest? I think the people want and need to know.
You've got a point there. Bill Clinton has given face to Kim Jong-ill. That's what mattered most to old-school Communist leaders.
ReplyDeleteThe journalists are going to write a book about their arrest and ordeal in N Korean prison. But the question is who to believe.
Obama's administration really want to see Kim is dying in his sick-bed, so they asked Clinton to check it out personally
