You should consider introducing Jong to the American audience in your blog. Hig[sic] slitty eyes and big, flat Mongoloid face comes out of a typical Hollywood stereotype. If you were a casting director for a movie about Genghis Khan or the Yellow Peril, you need to look no further. The television picture of him in torrential tears during the national anthem before the North Korea/Brazil World Cup match was the most memorable part of the match as far as I am concerned. Even our old roommate wouldn't have shed that much tears to the memory of the erstwhile Dear Leader thirty years ago.

I think, I am not sure, North Korea and China are using this episode to champion nationalism and the love of one's motherland.

Maybe Jong's affinity to N Korea does not necessarily stem from his love of or loyalty to the Dear Leader. But the national identity of the country.

Yes, his granddad (on the maternal side too)came from (or forcibly taken away from) North Korea during the Japanese occupation era. Before that, I am still trying to find out how his ancestors wandered from the Mongolian steppe into the Korean Peninsula.

Khabarovsk is famous for its casinos now. Lots of Chinese tourists went there. In the dead of winter seven years ago, I put up a deposit in Harbin for a visit there. It was cancelled by the tour operator at the last minute because of a Chechen terrorist attack somewhere in European Russia and they tightened up the border accordingly. If the Kims were still there, there would be ample job opportunities at the black jack tables.
