Is American Idol really popular in the US?
ReplyDeleteI have only seen the clip of William Hung on AI years ago.
Soon after WH's "world tour", Hong Kong has "invented" its version of American Idol - 殘酷人叮, which was one of the most disgusting programmes you can ever see on HK TV.
My feeling is that American Idol is not as hot as before. But then it's just my opinion. According to the New York Times, last Tuesday's 2-hour premiere of the 6th season totaled more than 37.3 million viewers, a record for a debut episode. It totally dominated the prime-time landscape.
ReplyDeleteSo to answer your question, American Idol is indeed very popular in the US. May not be in New York City, may not be in my home, but for the rest of the country it's indeed very popular.
I have never seen the show you mentioned, I read about it though. William Hung's 15-minute has been very encouraging to all the delusional lousy singers. People would do anything and endure anything just to be on TV. American Idol is all about humiliation and people like watching people got humiliated, on TV.
