I remember when I was young and there were much fewer buses going around in Hong Kong. I really did hate bus drivers who skipped my bus-stop 'cause the frequency of buses were much lower then and you never knew whether the next bus would skip the same stop as well. And there were almost no other alternative modes of commuting in those days. To be precise, the same condition still applied when I was not so young ie 1985 when I first moved to Tsing Yi Island. It's a horror story that repeated itself almost every day.
