Google Android

The first Google phone to be marketed is an HTC phone with both touchscreen and keyboard. But the thing doesn't come with a regular headphone jack so what were they thinking? Why? Anyway, it doesn't really concern me as the phone requires a two year contract from T-Mobile. I like an unfettered relationship with my carrier if at all possible. The New York Times did a feature on HTC and I learned the founder and chairperson is called Cher Wang. I always thought with a name like Cher you don't need a last name.

The Google founder kids went to the product announcement in NYC in rollerblades or inline skates. I guess that's still cool. Any attire that doesn't make them look like some blood sucking capital destroying executives are good.

  1. I agree that calling oneself Cher would require one to drop the last name too!

    Umm, just want to point out that "unfettered" probably isn't exactly the right term for what you're getting at here. Maybe "untethered"? You're saying you want to have an unrestrained relationship with your carrier as in no-strings-attached, not unrestrained as in a full-on, no-holds-barred relationship.

    Sincere apologies for causing any offense in advance as lately I've a habit of nitpicking others' posts... I meant it with the best intentions of the world of course.

  2. I take no offense when people correct me or hold a different opinion especially when with best intentions.

    I don't even remember I wrote "unfettered" Now I look it up again in thefreedictionary.com and I quote
    Adjective
    not limited or controlled: unfettered competition
    unquote

    I know when I connect wirelessly I mean untethered...
    When I wrote that I meant those wireless contract is really restrictive and like shackle to its customers. Now I don't even have a 2 year wireless contract with any provider. I use pay as per call... Oh well I don't know I thought I was pretty right on?

    Hey, I think she probably likes the name a lot Cher, so it was pretty petty of me to make fun of her, she looks very earnest and being earnest is important.

    My wireless router just broke, now no more untethered connection. I am now hot wired to my cable modem using a RJ-45 wire.

  3. Okay, believe it or not, this "unfettered" business had me thinking the whole morning!

    I think finally I can boil it down to this:

    "unfettered" = "unlimited" = "complete"

    e.g. "unfettered (complete) access to a full range of service" or "unfettered (complete) competition"

    Whereas

    "untethered" = "unshackled" = "free"

    e.g. "untethered (free) from your modem"

    Basically I think you might have conflated "unlimited" with "free", and these two are not exactly the same thing and from your description, I think you were more getting at the latter (i.e. having a free relationship with your carrier rather than a complete one).

    I know perhaps the word "untethered" is still not the best, maybe "unshackled" is even better. But it was late last night when I saw your post and I was trying to imagine which phrase that sounded similar to "unfettered" that you were groping towards and came up with that.

Civil War (2024)

This is basically a Dorothy yellow brick road kind of story.  Also, something to do with the new replaces the old, the circle of life thing....
