Ken Just Said It

There, Ken just said it.
Good news for D300 users is that the D3 isn't any sharper in JPG. Scuttlebutt is that people may need to shoot NEF to get optimum sharpness from the D3; too bad if true, because other cameras like the 5D give perfect sharpness direct in JPG.
Perhaps it's not too hard to believe.

  1. That should not be a suprise as the D3 is not as sharp as the 5D when he compare the JPG result of D3 vs 5D. The problem may still, I suspect, from the digital processor in camera that converst RAW to JPG. I would guess D3 and D300 share the same digital processor.

  2. And it's called Expeed. For it to lack behind 5D, it's just disappointing. I wonder if the engine has anything to do with the jpeg rendition or it's part of some firmware that's upgradable. If the NEF is at least on par of better than 5D's images, I don't see why the JPEG should be inferior in comparison.

From what I gather, the D3 really excels in low light shooting. But what bugs me the most is Nikon or actually its die hard fan boys used to say the 1.5 crop factor is fine or even great and the noise is simply a non issue or not important as people make it to be. Now all of a sudden, the noise or lack thereof issue has just become the major selling point, WTF? I think all along Nikon the company hasn't said much about one way or the other. It's just the user base rally in support of whatever Nikon has been doing.
