$5 haircut

Harry: Just take a little bit off the top, yeah, that's it. Easy....
Ah Keung Goh: Kid, this is a $5 haircut, don't expect much. Look, at least I know how to use a pair of scissors, freaking so called "stylists" at Sean Louis David don't even know how to use them, they just use a clipper to give you a buzz cut, plus your Daddy is cheap ....
Harry: I got it already, will you just shut up now?

Harry looks great. My haircut costs me hkd 55 and I never look that great after one. WP1983/2007 likes to have his hair permed every now and then. He has weird tastes.

  2. I think most guys take pride to have cheap haircuts.
The same barber shop Harry cuts his hair, for adult man, haircut only is $7, cut and wash is $10. Just to keep things in perspective, a very cheap Chinese fast food lunch costs $5 (with soda $6). A Subway sandwich meal around $7. Japanese sushi takeout around $10.
I am old enough to know how to comb my hair so I really don't need a "stylist" from more expensive shops.

  3. I had my haircut yesterday evening. I didn't choose the barber or stylist. It cost me HK$54 for cut, wash and blow dry. I usually have 2.5 to 3 haircuts a year.

  4. We did have some cheap barber shop in Tsz Wan Shan or Choi Hung, but I was too busy to have my haircut, so most of the time use the expensive service of HK$120 at the only barber shop in Hollywood Plaza

  5. No wonder your haircut is always so chic...the side burns and the occasional curls or waves.

    Sid,

Please elaborate. 2.5/3 haircuts a year? I think you have more hair than that!

  7. I will take a wild guess.

When he was so broke, he could only pay half of the $54 dollar and asked his barber to cut half of his hair, maybe the front half or the side half just use your imagination. When he got his paycheck, he will cut the other half.

It totally doesn't make sense, I know, but that's Sid.

  8. When I was a young boy, I got a pretty hairstyle, i.e. Fa Kei Chong. One day my mom suddenly told the barber to give me a crew cut, i.e. Hung Mo Chong. Since then I've developed a phobia of going to the barber shop. I actually hate having my hair cut.

When I had my say over my hairstyle, I tried to go to the barber shop as infrequently as possible. Every time I have my haircut, I told the barber to cut my hair as short as possible but still maintaining the Fa Kei Chong, i.e. like the HK policeman hairstyle in the past. I would only go back to the barber when my hair has grown really really long.

This time I was ordered to have my hair cut before the Chinese New Year because my wife and daughter thought it's very long but I managed to resist it. I only went to the hair salon on 20 March 2007. Last time I went, it's in November 2006. This time and last time, the barber or stylist urged me to come more often because it's easier for him to maintain my hairstyle that way.

Civil War (2024)

This is basically a Dorothy yellow brick road kind of story.  Also, something to do with the new replaces the old, the circle of life thing....
