Nothing Compares 2 U

I never quite figure out what she is sad about.  Is it a bad breakup?  Is it her mom's passing?  Or both?  I just want a clearer mental picture from the lyrics.  A live cover of this song is equally awesome but crazier.

  1. "Since you've been gone I can do whatever I want ..."

She's jilted or her lover is dead or fighting in Iraq or Afghanistan so that's why she's sad.

And the worst thing is that she still think he's the best [boyfriend.]

    Just my two cents, pal.

  2. I want to have some consistency, boyfriend or mother. It's a tear jerker all right. But I don't like it when it mixes the two together.

  3. "All the flowers that you planted, Mama/in the back yard/All died when you went away"

    Alright, mother is more likely.

One lyrics website - stlyrics.com - even says: ** She wrote this song after her son's death **

But we know the song was written by Prince in the 1980s.

  4. Yeah, that's what I am confused or don't like. Is she mourning the loss of her mom or moaning the loss of her lover .... Does it make sense to mix the two? Or am I missing something? I just couldn't make the leap from lover to mom.

Civil War (2024)

This is basically a Dorothy yellow brick road kind of story.  Also, something to do with the new replaces the old, the circle of life thing....
